Google Plus

Well, Goggle + has been around for a few weeks now and I've had a little play.
First impressions are good.

Circles
I've always found facebook's all your "friends" in one bucket annoying: in real life, you don't relate to your Dad in the same way as you do you best mate, or your work colleague or the guy you met once at a stag do but haven't spoken to since... Their grouping feature was an afterthought and has always been a pain to use.
G+ forces you to put the people you relate to into "circles". Everything you do from then on is based around those circles. You can of course interact with everyone in your circles, or even publicly to all and sundry.

Because you can call your circles anything you like, I've see a couple of interesting uses for circles. For instance, one guy suggests that if you want to have lots of people following you, just add lots of random people to a circle you call "invite circle" - (I'd call it "random people" myself!). Then, as people add you to there circles, you can move them to other , more appropriate circles as you get to know them. More about circles in the business section below.

Privacy and Ownership
G+ seems to have been designed with privacy (things that you share only go to the people you share them with) in mind. For instance, you can view what your profile looks like from the point of view of anyone you want to. That gives you a little bit more confidence that the things you post privately really are private.
I also like that you can easily download everything you have posted to G+. You posted it, its yours after all....

Cool things
On the android app, there is a "nearby" stream, showing you the public posts of people that added a location to their post. I've found that quite interesting for finding out about what is going on in the local area. Also saw someone ask publicly for a restaurant recommendation and seems to have got some random local people giving advice - That's cool! local knowledge!

I've found "Sparks" to be surprisingly good! type in an interest you have and G+ creates a news stream of related post, or web updates. A nice way to further your interests when you have a minute or 2 to kill rather than playing farmville...

The hangout feature (a multi-way video chat) is cool, but I can't really see it being used as a hangout... for now. It does have potential however

Business and charity/church accounts.
G+ is currently closing down any account it finds that is not a personal account. They are working on a business account and want people to wait until they have finished the work. But it is coming and there seems to be a great demand for it.

I was asked "what can we do with G+" by a church leader at Ebe.
There are some interesting things I can think out being able to do as a church on G+.
You could create a Hangout, maybe associated with a real event where people can join in the fun, or just hang. maybe it doesn't need to be event related, but just somewhere where people can ... hang out!
With circles, you could tailor the communication you send out to "students",
"newcomers", "members", "prayer team"...
You can have a circle for people that add you called "interested" or "to follow up"...
I think it probably worth waiting a few months to see weather G+ remains the haunt of geeks or if it takes of.

In conclusion, I like G+. I like it more than Facebook. But... most of the people I relate to are on facebook and not on G+
